Sovereign Mary I 1553
Minted at the Tower of London 1553

Coinage

One of the government’s first acts was to reform the coinage and to state the current valuation of several gold and silver coins on 20th August 1553.

From sovereigns to pennies, every denomination would return to its correct quality.

England’s new queen and her coins would symbolise a new beginning.
